Female Cowbird.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Sun Aug 02, 2009 6:26 am

In June I posted the male cowbird here, since then I managed to get a few shots of the female. This was the first time I have had one on the deck and I had not seen one either. I have shots of a finch feeding a young one, as you may know, they lay their eggs in other birds nests. Anyway, this is the female.

Why is it called a cowbird I wonder? She's a little beauty. I like the pattern her feathers make.

The colouring of the female cowbird reminds me of our thrushes. I'm glad you managed to get a shot of the female as she's a rather pretty bird isn't she?
