This is the first time I have caught a merganser out of the water. I just managed the one shot though.

I've never seen a merganser at such close quarters before. What a strikingly handsome bird!! So glad you managed to get a photograph of it.

As you know, I live in the area of the beautiful Chesapeake Bay, on the Western shore of it. ON the Eastern shore, there is a wonderful Maritime museum and they have a display about all of the different duck species that populate the Bay. I believe I may remember seeing this one in the display, though I've never seen one in real life. His head feathers are so different I think that is why I remember. He (or she) is so handsome.
