New House new Garden

Category: 2014 Garden | Posted: Mon Sep 23, 2013 9:54 pm

Well, spent most of 2013 with clean hands, with moving from Canada to the UK.
I'm very surprised how disconnected i feel from the seasons and nature in general. Without my daily sojourn to the bottom of the garden.

This weekend we finally get the keys to our new house, picked primarily for its gardens my choice, and for the age of the house my wifes choice.

with a south facing sun trap of a front garden for herbs and a long back garden for a backyard orchard, kitchen garden and flower beds. I have big plans over the next 12 months.

including :

planting of 2 plums, 4 cherry, 28 apple trees, to make a belgian fence.

my first green house and potting shed, building of 3 new raised beds.

transformation of the backyard into a cottage garden.

During all this i also plan to get an allotment and possible some honey making insects :)

So very keen to see if my learnings from canada help in the UK and like all gardeners, looking forward to the challanges ahead.

Will post some pictures once i move in.

Hello Dan--Well, how interesting is this, mate! I just sat here shaking my head as I read your account. It is like a some sort of fairy tale. Mate, you must be well chuffed with your new home (and grounds).
I shall be watching with great interest for your foto's and text describing what you show.
I hope that you can find a suitable lottie to further your adventure.
I am enormously happy for you and imagine that you are going to be very happy there.
Please pick your lottie carefully and keep in mind what your plans are and pay attention to the security of the site. If possible, have conversations with allotmenteers on prospective allotment sites and pose thoughtful questions before making a final decision. One of the most important questions you can pose is whether or not there is water available on the site.
Stay in touch.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Will take your words of wisdom Sjoerd, were moving to a small village so not sure how much choice i will get in selecting a plot.

I have had a couple of looks though and it looks a nice site if a bit sandy... so hoping for an old site with mature soil. Theres going to be enough digging in the house garden ;)

i'm planning to use the site to continue logging my gardening so pics will come soon. although i have promised the wife that i will sort out the problems inside the house before i start in the garden.. (we will see)
