Day One Done

Category: First Veggie Garden | Posted: Sun Apr 04, 2010 12:14 am

So day one is complete, here's the before and after:

Didn't get as much done as I wanted, but we did alot of hard work. We got the whole thing staked out and started breaking up the sod so we can get rid of the grass. The drainage isn't great and part of it is kind of rocky and gravelly, but we can do some work to fix those.

My wife also spent forever pulling up vines from the side of the house that had a ridiculous root system all over, plus raking up tons of leaves and debris, while I worked on building a couple of steps for the front and back door.

Its going to take more work than I thought to get it all together, but its worth it. Going to take Easter off tomorrow and get back to work Monday :)

The back yard before and after:

The frontyard's initial state (probably won't change for a while)

This is our crazy backyard that we'll never manage to actually tame, but we're going to try cut back the brush and cut down some trees and move the garden back therealong with a flower garden (and maybe a water feature, yay! We might try to utilize the springhead that we have there - the dark spot in the photo)

You have a lot of ground to work with, it's going to be fun :)
