Longwood Roses with Wren

I often visit Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pa. It is only about an hours drive from my home in NJ. This painting was done from a reference photograph I took of some of their roses.

Pressed Leaf Projects

Pressed Leaves ( photo / image / picture from kathyd's Garden )

Every Autumn I can't resist pressing the colorful leaves. Last year I pressed dozens. I've had a good time hanging them around the house.

I hung these from a few branches of my Harry Lauder's Walking Stick bush. The copper wire seems to blend in nice with the colors of the leaves. My cats have been fairly well-behaved and have only knocked one or two off the branches.

A few are dangling from the chandelier. I used copper wire for these too.

I strung these leaves with a needle and invisible thread. I left the needle on the thread and used it to slip into the small space between the beam and the ceiling. Because the leaves are feather light, the tiny needle has no problem holding them above the floor. It looks so pretty when the leaves flutter in the breeze. The edges are curling just a bit due to all the moisture we have had, but that only makes them look even more natural.

Church Flowers ( photo / image / picture from kathyd's Garden )

My Father and Father-in-law are born within two weeks of each other. Every September I make flower arrangements for our church in their honor. I once worked in a floral shop and still enjoy dabbling in flower arranging now and then. These colors just seemed to sing out, "Autumn."

The Visitor

Category: Garden Photos | Posted: Wed Sep 21, 2011 2:08 pm

Every year around this time I seem to have a visitor or two to my garden. I know they are prowling all summer, but in the cooler weather of Autumn they are quite docile and often let me carry them around and pose them for pictures.

Butterflies in September

Category: Garden Photos | Posted: Fri Sep 16, 2011 8:10 pm

The Hurricane swept in and out and I wondered if the butterflies and caterpillars would survive the onslaught. This week I was pleased to see quite a few butterflies around my late-blooming zinnias and verbena. Take a look-see...
