Gardening with water in sunny FL!

Confidence bolstered to try my hand at flowers

Category: Hydroponic Garden | Posted: Thu Mar 26, 2009 2:06 pm

I read somewhere in the forums that marigolds are good to plant w/ the veggies to keep away pests? Any rate, that won't matter for my hydro plants, but I think I have more sprouts than will fit in that unit! So, I am going to use some of the pots I have and put a couple of the peppers at least, if not a tomato, in pots. Then I can put the marigold pots next to them. Maybe it won't be quite what was intended, but I also happen to really like marigolds. So for now, I split the pot I bought into two and they are on my front porch.

More sproutings

Wow, I'm excited! Here are the trays again, and there is quite a bit more green than I expected. The few peppers I saw sprouting are up, but all-the-sudden I looked at them today and bam! Almost all the cups are sprouting at least 1 stem. Squee!

Now I need to find out how big my sprouts need to be in order to plant them in the hydroponic cups. There is a mix in them, and it looked like they got moved over fairly quickly. I'll keep you all updated!

First seedlings

Category: Hydroponic Garden | Posted: Thu Mar 19, 2009 8:26 pm

It's been really neat to see my seeds actually growing! I get teased about having a 'black thumb' because in the past I've dealt with un-medicated ADD and remembering to water plants gets boring after about a week. ;-) So, I have unfortunately contributed to many a plant's death in my day until I gave up. But, now the whole family is into it, including my 3-year-old who keeps me on track!

These are the cucumber sprouts. I've got a teeny-tiny tomato sprout, and I just noticed today after a day in the sun I've got some more seeds sprouting, including some of the peppers! I'm excited. I had almost given up. Good thing here in sunny FL I can put the seed trays (egg cartons) outside during the day. They get lots of sun!
