It's Finally Here

Category: Proud Papa | Posted: Tue Aug 18, 2009 4:32 pm

Now that all the rain that we've had has finally moved elsewhere, the growing season is here. Have been keeping an eye to the vines, and an ear to who knows where. Gave the Water meter a break for a couple of days, but that didn't last long. Now that we have 100+ temps w/heat index at 110+, I've been busier than a long tailed cat in a room full of rockin' chairs!
Went out to harvest, and had 2 plastic bags, Wal-mart size, chock full of cukes. Had some friends over, and doled them out.
Tomotoes are loaded!! This w/in just a very few day. Waiting for them to ripen. Some of the plants (cukes inc) are taller than I am (6'2"), and the weight of them is startin' to bend the stakes. There are cuke vines running amok, and mater plants are definitely having a good time somewhere amongst the tangle of vegatation. LOL!
Having a blast with everything, I hope it all keeps growing like a wildfire in a hurricane breeze, and I can't wait to get fat, dumb, and happy! Don't forget, got to throw some steaks and bakers on the barbee at the same time. UUMMMMM!
Have a wonderful day all,

OH MY GOODNESS...

Category: Proud Papa | Posted: Fri Aug 07, 2009 1:59 am

Hello gang,

Been down-and-out the last couple of days due to a comp crash. All better now, so here goes!

Have had severe storms for the last 3-4 days, not much damage, just a lot of wind. Jewel-I'll get you for that!

All kidding aside. Did manage to get to the garden, and cut about 6 cukes off. The biggest one was better than 8" long, and about the size of a baseball. Cleaned and cut several up, made some fried cukes (UMM), and put some in a tupperware to munch on w/salt. Just as good.

Also tried fried cukes, hulled out/cheese. Haven't got that mastered yet, but I'm working on it,TRUST ME!

New photos of the garden will be posted, and, INTRO..TAZAMANIAN DEVIL. Otherwise known as the Taz. More on him later, but here's a look-see to start.

Will be back shortly, and take care all

LOOK MA....WEB FEET

Category: Proud Papa | Posted: Sat Aug 01, 2009 2:17 pm

Yep-you got it right. It' raining again! Got up this morning walking thru the house, felt something weird, looked down- and my toes are growing together! This is amazing. I can't remember the last time we had a summer this wet in Arkansas. I feel like a duck (starting to look like one too). Taught Taz how to refill the scuba tanks, but he decided to take the day off, and go to higher ground. He opted to sit on the patio table for the day. Can't say that I blame him. This kind of weather, lightning and thunder at 9:oo am is wild, plus the downpours.

Jewell- I'm going to get you for this. Not used to this kind of weather this far South. You're more than welcome to keep it!

Needless to say, there's no garden check today. I know there's cukes ready for picking, but I'm not doning galoshes and poncho to do it-it can wait til tomorrow. This reminds me of monsoon season in S/E Asia.

Finally got the pic prob solved, will have garden pics and pet pics here soon (Taz, Stormy,Asher).

Stay dry (LOL), and good gerdening,
Gardenator

Noah's Ark

Category: Proud Papa | Posted: Fri Jul 31, 2009 12:29 am

Hello again all,

The rain hasn't let up. About 9 am this morning,a strange sound was heard outside. Went to look, and I saw Noah's Ark going down the street, with a full compliment of animals standing around the top deck.

Watched the weather this evening, and have had 4" of rain in less than 48 hrs. During a dry spell this morning, went a bought Taz a wet suit and scuba tanks. He took right to it, looks kind of funny trying to take care of business, but he can deal with. Just a couple of small probs, can't get him to zip the wet suit, and haven't figured out how to keep those tiny swim fins on his fuzzy little feet. LOL!

More serious- Did manage to check the garden, and I have word to say about it..SON! Got a couple of cucumbers tat would choke a mule. The last one I got was delicious, and I can't wait for this harvest. Am really surprised at the way they are coming off. My first try, and what a success. I can stand on my patio, and actually see them on the vine. My stakes are 10' tall, and a couple of them have climbed the stake, and crossed over to another stake. Amazing!

Just a short note to say hi to all, and wish all a wonderful day. Will update later.

Have a good day,
Gardenator

Rain, Rain, and More Rain

Category: Proud Papa | Posted: Wed Jul 29, 2009 2:40 am

Hello to all,

Since my post this morning about the Arkansas rain! The cat (Taz) got fed, and about 30 minutes after the first rain stopped, here it comes again.

After feeding Taz, He and I walked out to check the progress on the garden, and while we were digging through all the vegatation, (checking cucumbers and tomatoes),THE BOTTOM FELL OUT!!! I headed back as fast as I could, and he was madder than...(imagination sets in).

Anyway, things are looking up. Cucumbers are thriving, and maters are walking the dog.

Everyone have a wonderful day, and Happy Growing

Here comes the rain

Category: Proud Papa | Posted: Tue Jul 28, 2009 2:17 pm

Good morning all

I stated it has been wet and cool here in Arkansas, and sure 'nough, it started about 3am this morn. The feed bowl outside, partially covered, for the cat, had 1 1/2- 2 inches of rain in it. BOY, WAS HE UPSET! Typical Arkansas weather. Wait 5 minutes, it'll change. It's shortly after 9 am, and it has finally quit, and I see brighter skies. Made a quick dash to check the garden, and all is well. Will post back after some sun.

Good will to all, and happy gardening,

Gardenator

It's a wonderful day in the the Garden!

Category: Proud Papa | Posted: Mon Jul 27, 2009 1:23 pm

Good morning to all,

Went to check the cucumbers and tomatoes this morning. The cucumbers are doing 100%, the tomatoes are just now starting to come on. Have some that are about golfball size, and the rest are smaller. The weather has been to wet and cool in Arkansas for growing, but it is fixing to change. Can't wait. Look out come dinnertime.

The cucumbers are about 8-10" long, fat, dumb, and happy. Am waiting until the bloom on the end drops, and the white frost-like layer disappears. Read the forum about carving out the seeds to stop burping, will try it on the next harvest.

Excellent info when you dig deep, love the site.

Happy Gardening to all, and To All, A Good Day.

Loaded for supper

Category: Proud Papa | Posted: Fri Jul 24, 2009 12:43 pm

Good day all,

Went from dmullins to gardenator.

Checked things this morning, and the plants are filling. Counted at least 13 veggies in each patch of plants, and the real growing time hasn't even hit yet, too much rain and not enough sun lately.

Cut one of the cucumbers and put in a salad last nite, superb. Was really suprised at the taste of it, just right. Can't wait for the maters to add to it.

Still need ideas for my second garden, which is going to be added in early fall, or start of next year. Any ideas, please advise.

Having a ton of fun, and love the website. Keep'um
coming

Take care all,

Gardenator (formerly dmullins)

Am going to expand late fall or next spring, need ideas for 2nd garden.

Again, Hello All.
