Foxgloves are short-lived in my garden, but they easily reproduce from seed. They are the kind of plant that once you have them, you always have them. Just be sure to allow at least once flowering stalk to go to seed. I planted a 'forest' of foxgloves by scarifying the soil, then shaking a seed stalk over it.

This really needs less excessive heat and more moisture than found in my garden in Zone 8a. I won't be replacing it.

toni (26898) wrote the following about Genista racemosa on Apr 09 2013

I am not planting another of these. The Genista Caterpillar stripped the plant bare then down to the ground, then it died. I plant for caterpillars but only ones that don't pig out on the plants ;)

Great plant. No problems with insect or animal pests with this plant. I have grown them in various gardens

Cayuga Morning (752) wrote the following about Cercis canadensis on Apr 08 2013

This tree will self sow readily but is not invasive.
I planted a redbud in our garden perhaps 15 yesrs ago. It has bloomed and looked truly lovely for years. Unfortunately the winter of 2011-12, a heavy storm severely damaged the tree. (I have given up hope

My favorite grass both in pots (need to be divided yearly) and in my shade garden. Likes moist soil, and does well in shade. Stays in clump in the garden.

I love call lilies, they are my favorite...does anyone know about them being bad for cats and causing kidney failure... I have a cat but before planting need to know if I can!

Cayuga Morning (752) wrote the following about Nigella damascena on Mar 21 2013 (Last edit was on Mar 21 2013)

Nigella will self-sow for a year or two in my Massachusetts garden. Not invasive though.

this ninebark i think is diablo. need some ninebark information/help.

I have a very hot and windy south west location here in Southern BC Canada....I want to plant some ninebark. One will go directly into ground and another want to plant in pot to keep it small. I have auto sprinkling sytem for them.

1. will the ninebark survive the extreme heat we tend to get in summer?

2. want to know if all ninebarks will survive in pots during summer and over winter...or do I need to take the pots into my unheated garage.

hope someone will read this and be of some help.

cherylad (2383) wrote the following about Astilbe 'Red Sentinel' on Mar 10 2013

Astilbe lend a refined grace to perennial borders. Perfect for the shade garden along with Hostas and Ferns. Lush deeply cut foliage is attractive for the entire season and is colored from green to bronze. Effective anywhere with rich moist soil and partial shade.
Plant Care:
Low care. Needs moisture during dry spells. Best to clean up in the spring as seedheads are attractive. Can be divided every 3-5 years in early spring.
