I am guessing most of us in the northern hemisphere are beginning to get seed & plant catalogs in the mail...It may be too early to start seeds (for most), but that does not mean we are not anxiously awaiting doing just that!

For most gardeners, winter is a good time to reflection on our resolutions for the garden for the next growing season. Here are mine:

    1) Resist buying MORE plants. Instead, concentrate on reproducing what I have, making larger drifts of what I have to give the garden a better feel of continuity.

    2) Continue the battle with the deer to reduce the threat of deer ticks & lyme disease.

    3) Grow herbs in pots that can be taken indoors for enjoyment into the fall.

    What are everyone else's resolutions?

    Here's mine:

    1) To plant even more to attract bees and butterflies.

    2) To teak oil all the garden furniture.

    3) To attempt to keep on top of the weeding.

I'm sure there's much more but these are the main things that I want to get done.

I just extended a garden, so I'd like to get some new plants - by this I mean ones I don't already have varieties of. Also I hope to get the veggie patch fenced in. I would also like to try Comfrey Tea and keep ahead of the insects. And the weeds LOL

    1. Try growing something new and different from seed.

    2. Try grafting tomato plants.

    3. Battle all the backyard critters.

$. Teach my newly retired hubby to garden :frustrated:

Donna--I had to laugh at resolution #4! Have you thought of growing food(s) that he particularly loves to eat?

    & I am impressed with #3--grafting tomatoes!

These are my garden resolutions, which will last about a nano-second:
    1. Weed rigorously and faithfully
    2. After #1 fails, cultivate and mulch
    3. If #2 doesn't work, call it "ground cover" and move on to #4
    4. Raise more vegetables for the local food pantry, since fresh veggies are a real treat for some folks.

And I'd add #5--resist buying every seed and plant I come across--but I know that won't happen!

To sit and enjoy the garden more ......

instead of just looking at the chores that need to be done

I really don't do "resolutions"... because I never stick to them :D
But my plan for this year is to just continue doing what I'm doing... only better :D

Jewell--I'd like to try your resolution too. I used to have my morning coffee in the garden. Maybe I could do that again this summer.

I make no resolutions, therefore I can't forget to do them.
