We mowed the back yard today and bagged the clippings. Four garden carts full of clippings went into the indoor chicken coop, and the ladies are ecstatic! They dearly love to scratch around, eat the tasty bits, and rearrange the grass.
The happy gurgling sounds they make are music to our ears! It's wonderful having pets that are so easily satisfied (unlike a certain cat I know . . . .).

Oh yes, I do that when we have grass too. Of course we still have 24 inches of white stuff all around. :-?

I feed my chickens cakes of veggies and kitchen stuff in the Winter. That's what I have to do for now. :'(

Donna, I shall not show my ladies your photo of chickens on a pillow. It's bad enough with them agitating for big screen TV's, saunas, and stereo surround sound. If they find out about pillows, my life will become very difficult!

Lovely to hear that your chooks are so happy w/ the fresh grass clippings.
Sounds like your babes are real prima donna's....sauna, big-screen telly.....what's next?
You'da thunk that the fresh grass would have given them something to crow about.
Perhaps they're no dumb clucks after all. ;)

Poor ladies!! :( You mean to tell me that you don't give them pillows to sleep on? Shame on you. :smt018 At least you do give them grass clippings so I suppose it's not total neglect. ;)

Jane just don't let the neighbours chickens know how well kept yours are all you'll be inundated with chooks before long.

Jane, I can't believe you haven't given them a pillow to sleep on. what are you thinking? maybe you should bring them in at nighttime to sleep on yours, isn't that a brilliant solution?

My girls got the last Jarradahl pumpkin on Thursday. happy happy happy.
