We had a thunderstorm here last night. It's the first rain since the beginning of April. It seems no matter how much water I put on the flowers and vegetable garden nothing pleases them like good old rain. The tomatoes look like they grew three inches. All the leaves are flat instead of curled. It looks so green. Now, the humidity will build and we may get rain by Friday again. We may also get some rain from the remnants of Hurricane Emily. Maybe! But, in addition to making the flowers and vegetables grow, it will also really improve the weeds. Ugh! Fire danger is extreme right now so weeds are a no, no! The rain really brought the temperature down last night, but it was back today. Nothing to do about that until about October. Dooley

So glad to hear you've had rain Dooley. :D Tap water just doesn't seem to do the same job at all does it? We have high winds here in Scotland at the moment accompanied by rain, some sun and a reallly low temperature for this time of year - 11 degrees. Brrr.

Here's hoping you get enough rain to keep the danger of fires at bay. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. :)

-11 deg. I think I'll keep my heat. We lived in Wisconsin for many years with the cold weather. There are two wildfires burning in the county where we live but they are several miles over mountainous areas. Everytime we have thunder and lightening we cross our fingers. There were 100 lightening caused fires last week. But except for the two burning now they were just small and quickly put out. The ones that get big are usually in the mountains and hard to get to so they get big before someone gets to the area. They are mostly fought with air tankers or helicopters. The firefighters try to make a perimeter to contain it. Dooley

Oops! I had to go and look up the difference between 11 deg. ferenheit and 11 deg celsius. 11 deg. celsius is about 51.8 deg. ferenheit. That is approximately our winter daytime temperature here unless it is stormy. Still cold for me. I'd like temperatures that would range between 70 and 80 degrees. Our night time temps in winter range from approximately 25 deg. to in the mid 30's during January and February. Then, it starts to warm up. At our altitude, we still have a chance of frost into April. I do like heat rather than cold. Dooley

You certainly wouldn't like our Scottish winters then Dooley. :( Last year it dropped to -13 degrees celsius + the wind chill factor which brought it way down to -15!!!!! Even we hardy Scots found it a tad on the chilly side. :D :D

I did just the opposite, I moved out of Texas and am now in Wisconsin (stopped in Washington State for 2-1/2 years). I couldn't stand those summers in Texas. That state has two weather's...hot and hotter! I never did understand that silly heat index. 101 degrees feels like 115. Why not just say the temperature is 115! I'll take Wisconsin winter's over Texas summers any day. Well except for that Arctic thing we had last year, but the second year in Texas we had an ice storm.

We have had absolutely lovely weather but I’d like a little rain. Had to water a bit to settle in some transplants. Guess you’d say I’m envious of rain. Tomatoes? Ours are still in hoop houses where they spend the summer:whistling:

Because the temperature is not 115, it just feels that hot when you factor in the humidity that is in the air.

Toni, did you guys get much wind damage there? We had BIG lightning and storms here outside of Ada, Ok. No tornados though. My green house didn't take any damage and we had a beautiful Easter service . No wind just sun and nice temps. I have lumber in the shop to finish a raised bed for the gr, house.
We have almost as sever summers here as down Texas way. Gets up to 110 f and down to 10 deg F in winter. The garden seems to adapt if I keep it watered right. I lived in San Diego 50 years ago and the weather there was great. Only problem was San Diego was in California..

I'm from Ft Worth, not Cali. (Say excuse me.) Retired to Ada, Ok. We got high winds again and cold temps last night. 34 deg with storm and wind gusting to about 40 mph. Luckily, My green house withstood the wind. My plants inside look a little wilted, but I think they will survive.
