Can anyone tell me the proper height I should place a squirrel feeder above ground level cause my feeder has been out for 2 weeks with no takers.
The squirrel does come around but not to the perch

That's surprising Ed. I would have thought one couldn't keep squirrels away?!

Ed, you need to add starched napkins and tablecloth, soft lighting, mood music, and expensive china!
On the other hand, try sprinkling a few grains of the corn on the ground to give the little squirrels the idea. Contrary to popular opinion, squirrels are not all that bright :smt002 .

    My problem

Thanks to EVERYONE who replied to my question.
The feeder is actually 17" off the ground.
Im still having trouble attracting my babies BUT since the cats hang under the front bush I figure the cats are scaring off the birds (any ideas)
Sleep warm friends and thanks for all your help.

Hi Ed, yea, give the squirrels time, and they will get up there to dine. I think they have to think they're being bad, and getting away with something. :D

The squirrels are avoiding the cats, same as the birds.. If squirrels dine with cats they run the very real risk of becoming the main course.. You're going to have to eradicate or domesticate the cats in order to have birds and/or squirrels visit in any quantity..

Re: Proper height to place a squirrel feeder above ground le

I think the best height is as height as you can reach comfortably. We have been feeding birds, squirrels and deer since 1973. The squirrels would never eat the corn but the peanuts in the shell was like my DW in a chocolate shop. Our squirrel feeder is like the first photo. The problem with the peanuts in the shell is the squirrels bury more than they eat.

After reading this topic it dawned on me, after 41 years that the squirrels also hang on the bird feeders and eat bird feed all day. The next time we need feed, guess what is going in the squirrel feeder.

I just watched a squirrel leap at least 5 foot off the ground into the bird feeder.
I like the looks of that feeder JBest. I need something like that because the Blue Jays tend to steal all the peanuts I put out.
