I just bought a Stevia plant off line. it seems to be wilting. I could use some suggestion on what to do and how to care for this plant. I also bought some stevia seeds, I will be trying them pretty soon.
It does get large and is an annual but other than that I am not familiar with it's needs. Stevia rebaudiana (Stevia, Sweet Leaf) The stress of being dug up and out of the sun for a few days will make it wilt. I would put it in a pot in the shade for a few days to let it recover before putting it in full sun.
I was told by the man who sold me my stevia that it acts just like sweet basil, to treat it as I would basil itself, so water and full light and anything else that is done with basil.
my stevia didn't make it.The lady from where I bought it (I think it was either Amazon or E-bay), anyway she was rather rude. asked if I had the instructions-no instructions were put in with the plant and she offered no replacemnet. So for now I did buy seeds. No luck on getting the seeds started yet. Any one know of a way to get Stevia seeds started????
thanks for this information Shawchert. interesting how they suggest testing germination by paper towel. This is how I always start all my seed processes. after they have started then I move them to their new home. again thanks for the link.
Next time you decide to give it a try, consider adding a little electric current to the seeds in the soil as I have found that it can drastically increase the germination rate, and make the plants less susceptible to sickness. ( photo / image / picture from ElectroGrow's Garden ) The photo above shows how my electrified lettuce seeds not only grow faster, but also germinate a much greater percentage (lower right corner). All cells had the exact same soil, moisture, and number of seeds.
electrogrow: Not sure what your using for this, looks like something solor? I been trying to start seeds inside as we are now going into winter. I have aguired a good amount of seeds but no luck on starting them to grow.
Hi Petunia, Yeah, I used a solar lantern that I took apart and took the wires out from underneath and attached them to some nails that then went into the soil. You can do the same thing using a single battery, like a C-cell or even an old cell phone charger. It all depends on the plant, seed, voltage and duration... But it does help with germination. Give it a try using things in or around your home... Let me know if you need help - I'd be happy to assist.
