Sure hope someone can help me. My cousin made me the most beautiful blue and white doily with a ruffle. it is huge, probably 42 inches in diameter! Since it was sent through the mail she didn't starch it. How do I do that? She said something about pinning it and spray starch and.... Please help! Thanks, Deanna :-D
Spray starch will work if you have a large enough area to lay it flat to spray and leave it to dry. I crocheted my Mom a large round tablecloth many years ago but instead of starching I took it to the cleaners for them to press for me. That evened out the stitches and took care of the wrinkles. It never was starched.

Well, good question...She mentioned it so I thought I had too. It does have a pretty ruffle on it, maybe that's what she was referring to, so it would stand up tall. I don't want that board stiff feeling Deanna :-D
Deanna there is a spray product from Faultless called Sizing Fabric Finish. It is a pre-iron spray that gives a nice crisp look to fabric without the stiffness of starch. I used it all the time when I ironed my husbands shirts and fabrics for quilting. You could use that just on the ruffle to make it stand up.
I'll look for it the next time in WalMart. I really like the idea of taking it to the dry cleaners I might see how it turns out and if the ruffle needs a little attention I'll finish it off with the sizing spray. It is such a pretty thing.
