Rich built this for me today. All the old weather beaten stuff is gone. When it gets to hot I have screening that will cover top and sides. DSCN2568.JPG

I edited your post for you Donna. :)

What a great looking pergola. Are you going to have climbing plants growing up it?

    Thanks all.

Eileen, Thanks for the edit. Not sure what I will grow around it. Left side has to be containers because our oil tank is in the ground there. I'd like a clematis on the right side. Going shopping today and see what I can find.

    Wow! That's really cool.

I'm curious how he made the top pieces, where the wood has been shaped. Did he do that himself, or buy the wood already shaped like that?

Ronni, Rich did all the cutting. He used a jigsaw to get the shape.

Very nice...my husband built one for me after we moved into this house. We didn't have any trees big enough to hang feeders on so we use our pergola as a feeding area. We put blocks on the bottom so we can just sweep up the dropped shells, etc. We used cedar and it has held up nicely. This is from years ago and the large Christmas tree in the back is more than twice the size ..we had mugho pines on the side but they didn't work out so now we have honeysuckle vines for the hummingbirds.
