Hi Everyone, I was asked to post some close up pictures of the shawl I crocheted here in this section of the forums. The name of the pattern is the Top-Down Shawl by Nazanin S. Fard and I named mine October Rust Birthday Shawl due to the fact that I was listening to Type O Negative's October Rust album and I crocheted this for myself as a birthday gift. It took me a little under a month to make and it has about 860 yards of Knit Picks Swish Tonal in the colorway Wine Tasting in the body of the shawl and just under 160 yards of Lion Brand's Superwash Merino Cashmere in the colorway Green Tea for the picot edging.
What a lovely birthday gift to make for yourself. I never managed to get my head around crochet and am always amazed by what others can make. I really like the colours in your shawl and the picot edging really adds a touch of class. Of course the glamorous model displaying it makes it even better!!
That is as gorgeous up close as I thought it would be. It should keep you nice an warm this winter. I love KnitPicks yarns, just got an order from them this week. I see boxes of yarn in your closet I have shelves in my craft room that are stuffed full, I have got to stop browsing through the KnitPicks website and catalog. My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was about 10, then I taught myself to knit from instructions in a Woman's Day magazine back in the mid-1960's. My fingers don't work well enough to crochet or hand quilt now so I knit a lot. My favorite shawl pattern is knitted from bottom-up design, start at the pointy end and stop when it's the size you want. I am pretty sure every female member of my family is getting one for Christmas this year, I have got to use up some of this yarn.
Those who have nimble fingers and a sense of color are special folks--you qualify! That is a beautiful shawl and you are right to be proud of it.

So much so, that I had to go on a yarn diet until 2017 to stop myself from buying more. Which are your favorite Knit Picks yarns? Have you tried any yarns outside of Knit Picks? I learned to knit from a class held at a local Library, the Knitting Help website, Knit and Crochet Today, YouTube and Knitting Daily series 100 - 1100. I learned to crochet from the Baltimore Free School, Knit and Crochet Today, YouTube and Knitting Daily ^^. Everyday, I'm learning something new, so I hardly consider myself expert. My favorite shawl pattern is Villimarjatar. I've tried knitting it a few times but I usually mess up as I'm not used to lace knitting yet. Socks are much easier. As for my yarn overflow, I'm going to knit and crochet my fingers to the bone until I decimate my stash. I have a sweater in the planning stages as well as a throw, a bunch of socks, scarves and Amigurumi toys for various people. Some of it will also be going to my mom for her yarn stash. I'm not familiar with Knit Picks yarn but the colors in your shawl are so vibrant and it looks very pretty on you. Toni, due to some hand problems I gave up crocheting but I didn't think about knitting! I haven't done it in 40 years as I preferred crocheting but maybe I'll see if I remember how. I still have my Great-grandmothers knitting needles!

Wow, that is beautiful. I am always a sucker for a good looking yarn. But I have never tried to knit something like that. Scarves are more my expertise. I love to sit and knit in the winter. I find it really good for the soul. Now all I have to do is find something to do with the over 12 scarfs I have in my closet. You did a super job.
Thank you for your compliments, Tooty2shoes! Off the top of my head, you could make a stole or a blanket? Just stitch the scarves together if they're of the same length. If they're of different lengths, you could pick up stitches add material and then graft them together?
