Looks like it's supposed to be warmer this week, so I rushed and got the tomatoes and peppers in before the next round of rain started. It was only 10 minutes after I was done, and it started raining. Good timing! May be another wet weekend though.

It has been really busy here for the past 2-3 weeks as the weather has been pretty good and some guests from Oz appeared over the southern horizon. while they visited, we did almost no garden work...so there was quite a lot to do.
We have planted sweetcorn, built a bean rack and planted beans, thinned-out the beets and transplanted the thinned-out plants. The pak choi and Tat tsai are in and I have done quite a bit of work in the bees, and they are producing honey already.
I almost forgot--the toms. The toms have been planted in the greenhouse, along with the hot peppers, the paprika's and the snack cucumbers.

I have some new flowering plants and have planted them in the flower garden. I am trying a row of sunflowers up next to the western wall of the garden house. The season has begun and is well under way now.

I got a few more tomato plants in before the next rain, spread some mulch and covered some potatoes more.

Yesterday was a rest day; however, the spuds needed the first earthing-up a couple of days before. I thought that I'd show this piccy because they are looking good to me.

Not much I can do out there right now, so much rain .... and I never thought I would say that after years of drought......that I can't stay out there for long. Will have to just tough it out soon, the weeds are becoming the most abundant plant out there.

After the torrential rains on Monday, I could finally get out to the potato patch today without wearing waterwings. Some of the soil had been washed away from the potato hills, so I "dibbled" the exposed potatoes and found that our crop is going to be pretty good. I tied up a passionvine (thank you, Toni!) and managed to rescue a cucumber before it became a war club. Oh, please let things dry out a bit!

Jane, when that passionflower vine clones itself a couple of dozen times you won't feel like thanking me ever again.
My garden got 3.5 inches of rain while we were on our trip last week and this is the first day of sun with no clouds in over a week.....I miss the clouds though. I might get out this afternoon and start weeding and cleaning up after a couple of weeks of soggy muck out there.

Toni, I already have homes waiting for the Passionflowers! A friend stopped by, saw it in bloom, and wanted one so badly I was tempted to dig one up (yes, it has cloned). I didn't, since it was such a baby.
Isn't the sun a wonderful sight! I was out trying to get standing water to drain from the flower beds, and actually felt a little "warm". This is more like the Texas I have come to love!

Watered the harvested spinach plants. It is coming back very nicely. I may get a second harvest.
I planted a number of new flowering plants....some bought, some raised from seed.
Tied-in the Wisteria and some of the Clematises.
Planted out the last of the beans today and removed the curtain.
Watered the rest of the veggie patch.

I began mulching out my garden area. Plants are coming in nicely so it's mostly just daily maintenance there. I gotta go out for more mulch though.

I bought new plants in anticipation of drier weather for planting. I want to fill in several bare spots where the now dead Hostas used to be with more Hosta's and some Ferns. Also have a bare spot out back now that the Muscari and dwarf Iris are down until next Spring so I bought some Angelonia and Sunpatiens

    Breathed.
Actually I didn't need to do anything in the garden this morning except look around. It rained for the first time in 6 weeks this week. Most of my greenhouse is moved outside ( or mostly sold) so my watering scheduled has dropped from 2 hours of handwatering to a 1/2 hour tops. Everything outside is wet from the rain. Most of the garden is in except for the last section that has tomato cages still piled on one side. As soon as I get those on the tomatoes already planted then I will get that tilled and planted with another two rows of tomatoes and the rest in melons.
So, as of now I have 180 tomaotes in, 4 rows of greenbeans in and up, 5 rows of peas almost ready to pick, 225 feet of potatoes (50 pounds of seed potato), beets are almost ready to start harvesting, 6 rows of carrots and 3 rows of swiss chard were planted on Friday, 3 rows of broccoli and cabbage, two rows of zucchinis (one is bearing already), a row of lettuce that has been harvested twice now, 100 pepper plants (need to do another 100) and 1/2 acre of corn in various stages. One we planted up and covered the rows with hoops and plastic to make a mini low tunnel greenhouse. It is a little over knee high now. Hopefully it will be ready for 4th of July. In the greenhouse... I planted up 175ish 10" hanging baskets and sold them all already, and about 300 flats of bedding plants. Mostly they are gone, too. Time is a very limited commodity for me during the Spring , I either am outside or ready for bed so I haven't posted much between the family and the garden. Sorry.
Oh, and we cut down 3 apple trees in our spare time. got another litter of bunnies right before Easter, too.

Carolyn, you made me tired just reading about what you have done. I weeded my veggie patch and fertilize this morning, then sat down and watched it grow. Now I'm ready for a nap.
