Next spring if things go as planned we plan on putting our home up for sale. We were fishing on a friends dock and noticed the lot next door was just put up for sale. Came home and checked the computer and made an appointment to see it again. Our bid was accepted and we are patiently waiting for the bank so the Lakefront property on Lake Winneconne will be officially ours...The property has an old cabin on it which needs too much improvement so we will build a new home. We are so excited.. never even thought about living on the water but things just fell into place. A whole new way of gardening, downsizing a must now .... inside and outdoors. We do have an artesian well on the property which needs cleaning up but that should help with watering.

Gosh you gave me a shock when I read your title Sherry!! However, after reading your post, I can now breath again and say congratulations on your winning bid for the Lake Winneconne property. If you have any photographs we'd all love to see them.

Congratulations on your new property! When will the building of your new home start? Could salvaged wood from the old cabin become a potting shed?
Having been through something similar, may I offer a bit of advice? Collect seeds, dig corms, tubers, and rhizomes, pot up some perennials and have a start of your new garden from your "old" garden.

I'm like Eileen--I was a bit shocked.but now get the picture. I shall miss looking at that particular bed shown up above, but who knows what you will create down on the lake. I am looking forward to seeing pics of your new place.
Why don't you try and take Bob with you. ;)

That's wonderful news Sherry, what an exciting new adventure. I really hope the amazing bird photos can continue. They will have a nice, new backdrop now.

Congratulations on your new property! You are going to have so much fun planning and designing your new home but plan on tilling up an area that is out of the way so you can save some of you beautiful plants for your future flowerbeds.

Thank you everyone....we sign on Oct. 12 and the property will be ours. So many restrictions. I wish we could tear down the old cottage now and build in the spring but we were told it only comes down right before we are ready to build. We will have 3 trees taken down for sure in a few weeks. I do not want those old trees dropping limbs on our heads in the front yard. No one would want to park a vehicle under it or sit under them. The one in the back is a nice tree but it is so messy and we are worried about getting hit on the head with black walnuts in the fall. The yard is covered with them. I will pick them up and put in a pile for the squirrel and hopefully he hides them some place...preferably not our yard. So far we will keep the black walnut wood for campfires and for sitting on the stumps around the shore. we will have to buy a chainsaw...we might end up making a deal and getting a better price on the job if we give the man the black walnut wood.

The house will be smaller than here and no basement. I have a basement full of furniture right now and quite a few containers of photos. I don't really plan on doing as much gardening, but I will take a dozen daylilies that I had just put in the ground the last couple of years. Maybe I will be the first one in the neighborhood to have a shoreline planted with daylilies...LOL. The biggest thing is I will miss my birds...We will feed them this winter but quit in the spring before we put the house up for sale. I will feed the Orioles and hummingbirds nectar and most likely will leave a feeder filled in hop that they will keep feeding them... We look at this as a new adventure in our life...change can be good and the view will be fantastic, especially watching all of the boaters and fisherman in the summer.

We have been making sketches of what we want in a house...I want a large living room or great room as some call it facing the water with large windows to see out. I am not a fancy person and I don't need the best so no granite counter tops, etc. I have lived this long without them...It will have heated floors and will be very comfortable. If we get the shore line cleaned up (it depends on the weather here in Wisconsin) I will take some photos of it. So many years of neglect has taken a toll on the property...they did have a man that called himself the caretaker but we couldn't figure out what he did. Someone else is mowing the grass .

Sherry,..on reading the heading,..'I will be giving up my flower bed',..ah no was the thought,..then i was delighted you are starting on a new adventure,..gosh you are going to be busy,..thinking this and that and the other lol,..ok you will miss your birds but you will have new ones to watch and take those great pictures you always post.

Here's hoping that who ever moves into your present home is a bird lover and will be interested in carrying on the feeding,..yes a shoreline with a display of Daylilies sounds nice,..the large window looking towards the water sounds very appealing :sete_056:

We finished as much of the shoreline as we can for now. We ordered rocks, 13 inch and when they dumped it, it had some as large as 32 inches and heavy. Then we had a lot of gravel which we didn't want...we talked with the place and they gave it to us free. We had to put some large stones in one area because we didn't have anywhere else to go with it....so no fishing from that spot. We are waiting to see if they will take down the cottage now or in the spring. We are hoping now but that all depends on our weather. These are the large stones....a little hard to climb over...The shoreline isn't exactly like we wanted but it will do. We are hoping it will help keep the ice out of the yard.
