Hi, back right before Christmas this year we lost our 14yr old Yorkie to complications of diabetes and Cushings. We had been so used to hearing the pitter patter of paws in the house and since he was just like one of our kids, who are grown up and gone, we sat down and looked at the photos of available at the city animal shelter. The first photo we saw was of Charlie and we knew we just had to adopt him. We went to the shelter and instead of outside in a cage he was inside, sitting in one of the chairs there. As soon as we saw him he was ours. They told us he was deaf and that at a recent free adoption event the city had the week before no one wanted him because of this. Chris I have a feeling that little Charlie has landed on all four paws now that he's with you and your husband. Life will just get better and better for him and he'll get all the love and attention that any dog could wish for. Thank you for taking him home with you and making him part of your family. Charlie I think the other people wouldn't adopt you because somehow they knew that your new mum and dad would soon be along to take you home. You may not be able to hear but that's no big deal is it? Have a very fun filled and happy life and I just know we're all going to look forward to hearing of your adventures and seeing plenty of photographs of you.
Hi Eileen, I'm a guy my wife is Judy, but no matter, yes Charlie is very, very happy. He's got a big backyard to play in and he loves to go to the new pet store here in town. He's already got his routine down in fact it only took him about 2 days to figure all that out. Here's a photo of him with one of his new sweaters sleeping in my recliner. When we take our nap in our recliners every day he comes up and lays with his head in my lap and goes to sleep.
He is Gorgeous! I've never owned a deaf dog and am going to presume he has been deaf since birth. Out of curiosity - does he bark? Asking as lots of dogs bark - well for lots of reasons - but usually they hear something that will trigger this response. Does Charlie bark?
Hi Islandlife, neither our vet or the shelter are sure whether he was deaf from birth or went deaf. Oh yes, he'll bark his head off if he sees a cat and he's already learned that about 3pm every day he can bark at the kids as they walk past the house on the way home from the school up the street. However the two big dogs in the yard behind us will bark at him and lunge the fence and he just ignores them.
Thanks Toni, the shelter said he's a miniature Schnauzer mix but the vet said he's full blooded. We'll have to wait until his coat grows out to see for sure I guess. He is most definitely a spoiled dog. He was out with me in the greenhouse last week. He had to sit on my lap while I took some milkweed seeds out of the pods.
Sorry Chris for assuming that you were female. Charlie looks so content in your photograph and very fetching in his sweater. You and Judy are going to have so much fun with him over the years.
No problem Eileen, He is content, our vet said he's about 7yrs old so hopefully he'll have a long life left.

You're absolutely correct, he has. We always make it a point to adopt from a shelter. I'll be sure to post more photos
