According to Botanica, the Indian Laurel Fig (Ficus microcarpa) is a tropical tree growing in area 9b and warmer. I don't think it would do well in the Dallas area.

It is the species of Fig that is very popular with beginners at Bonsai. When planted in the ground and left to it's own it will grow very large.
Dallas has the hot temps of a tropical area but not the humidity so the chances of it living outside are very slim and we do have definite winter temps in the season (just not for the last few years though) so it wouldn't make it through that. If you want to try your hand at Bonsai it will live quite happily indoors under the correct temp and humidity.

If you want one for their fruit the best in this area is Ficus carica (Common Fig)
I have had mine for about 15 years and it is huge, if we liked figs we would have more than we could eat but we don't so the birds enjoy them in July and August.
