I love to have spiders in the garden as they do no harm and eat all the nasties. Of course I might change my mind if we had tarantulas here in Scotland!! Your writing spider is a very handsome specimen. :-D

Donna, we have argiopes or "Gardener's Friend" spiders. I love their zig-zag webs, and the fact that they take out a lot of grasshoppers.
Other spiders are fine, just look before you put your hand into something. I appreciate our outside spiders.
Inside spiders are a different matter. I don't go around messing up their homes, and I expect the same consideration from eight-leggers!

Did you ever read the book Charlotte's Web or see the movie? That is the kind of spider Charlotte was. Her web usually tends to be good sized and will fill up with silk wrapped bad bugs before long. She will also find a spot somewhere close by to make 1-4 egg sacks filled with eggs so keep an eye out on and around nearby plants/trees, etc.

The egg sack will hang around through the winter and next spring it will burst open and the hundreds of baby spiders will shoot out a small web and 'fly' away. Each Charlotte only lives one season but hopefully one of each Springs batch of babies will decide to stay in your garden. The babies are so small they will normally look like dust in the wind.

I like them outdoors, not running above my head or over me in the house. very pretty colors on them. No sightings this summer.

Cool spider. I'm not afraid of them, but also I don't invite them for tea.
I wish we had some big ones around here...
