I tried that thing with the avo pit and the toothpicks, but I also filed the pit a bit at the top and bottom. And then one of them actually sprouted! But last night the toothpick got hooked on the curtain breaking my glass and the pit and sprout both split down the middle.

What do I do now? Could the sprout(s) actually survive? It's only a cm long and haven't grown upwards yet, should I keep it in water or rather take my chances and plant it?

I would keep it in water for a while longer, that way you can watch the root development and see if it continues to grow. Splitting while in the ground is most likely normal, but being in the ground it isn't seen. As long as the roots develop and the sprouts grow it's probably okay.

    I agree with Toni.
I find planting it now with that green bit in its infancy a bit risky.

It's back in the water, fingers crossed!

Did you put those two halves back together somehow?
I can imagine that while the green bits are at this stage of development that the dryness of the air may do them in.
Obviously when the green bits emerge above the seed it is time for them to be exposed to air....before that may be premature.

To be fair this is conjecture on my part, but it seems logical to me.

Good luck with its progress. I hope it works for you.

I would tape it gently back together trying to fit it as best you can then stick it in well watered soil . Only bury the bottom half in the soil. The part on the left looks to have a young root beginning. Make a greenhouse from an old 2 litre soda bottle top and place over the whole thing. Then keep your fingers crossed. Remove the soda bottle when top growth is about an inch high.

The progress of the broken seedling....

I put both halves loosely in the water and the one half continues to grow up and the other half roots... Very interesting. When I originally started I put three pits in water, one has cracked only now and the other one shows no sign of doing anything. But I guess once it gets going not even breaking in half can stop it!
