As you can see, this is a very charming old inn. Originally a hunting/fishing lodge, it has been in continuous operation for 100 years. There is a lovely wrap-around veranda where most people take their meals. The veranda looks out over a mangrove swamp that flows into the Gulf of Mexico. The photos don't do it justice. Those are good foto's which give me a good idea of that old lodge/Inn. That veranda looks ideal for sitting and eating--what a view !
    Was the menu mostly seafood?
The other fotos of the general interior were interesting to see as well. Did this place have rooms in which to sleep? I wonder if you guys ate as well as slept there. I think that it would be a great place.
---The wood panelling, the furniture...and of course, the ceiling fans. My kind of place.
Thanks for the foto show, meid.

We just drove down for the day. We tend to check out Everglades City whenever we come south.
Very interesting town, interesting history. It used to have a thriving fishing industry until the area became a national park. It was a thriving smuggling port, first during prohibition (rum running) then during the 1970's to mid 1980's, marijuana smuggling. It is positioned ed as far south in Florida as you can go and surrounded by the '1000 Islands', perfect for fishing boats to evade the law.

In 1983 200 Drug Enforcement Agents decended upon the town, closed off the one road in & out & arrested half of the adult residents & seized more than half of the "fishing" vessels. There also was an unmonitored airway strip that was involved. It was all over the news at the time.

It is a very close knit community. Interesting to visit.

A very interesting Inn decor,..i was captivated looking at the fishing reels and the crabs and lobsters then wondered how far away was it from the water,..next few images surprised me as to just how close,..a few steps away.
