I was wondering where I can order bulbs online without having to buy bulk lots like I've seen on American Meadows and sites like that.

I buy them through catalogs: John Scheepers. (Van Engelen is their wholesale wing.) I also just go to the box stores in the fall and buy the bags of 50 tulips. They come up & bloom just fine.

BTW, I also bought some peonies bareroot through Scheepers, & they have worked out very well. The price was pretty inexpensive, and although small, they have grown well and are increasing in size every season.

I can recommend Scheepers Pine Tree Seeds (they sell bulbs in addition to seeds), and Jung's. I'd strongly recommend staying away from Michigan Bulb. Some folks may have had good luck with them, but everyone I know calls them "death by mail."

MG--I have had a poor experience with Michigan Bulbs too. Also with Dutch Gardens. But I have a friend who swears by DG?!?

Michigan Bulb AKA micro bulb. If you are lucky/fortunate they grow at least a little bit before they die.
I generally buy local so I can see the product before I pay for it. I don't want bulbs that are damaged or moldy. They should also be "hefty" for their size. Not like you are holding air in your hand.

I have had surprisingly good luck with tulips from the big box stores. They only come up one year, but make a nice show & they aren't too expensive.

You might want to take a peek at Old House Gardens if you are interested in some heirlooms. Very high ratings on some sites and I have been happy. Nothing like heirlooms for hardiness. For daffodils bulk bulbs from Home Depot have been replenishing themselves for years on a driveway strip. Tulips no matter where I get them or the varieties last no more than a year or two for me. Guess I don't have the right climate for them.
