Location: Western Washington. I'm quite sure this is not a tree because the truck is fleshy. Wasn't there last year and just popped up and starts to grow like mad since Spring, now it's about 6 feet high. The fruit looks a bit like mini grape. It's very hardy as well.
It sure looks like Polk.I just wonder if it is.The berries and the blooms really looks it. I can take a picture of one almost that tall tomorrow.I will post it here.
That is Pokeweed. Poke Salad or more commonly known in the south as Poke Salit, is editible but ONLY if you know exactly what you are doing because otherwise it is toxic. However, the birds love those berries.
Yes,toni and it grows all over the place here. The part thats not edible is the roots and berries they are deadly i understand.I am not one to eat it but lots of people around here do.Birds scatter the seeds bot in real fertile ground like old rotted trees or where brush has ben pushed up to burn they just come up wild.
I've always wondered what that was. I leave a couple of them for the birds to have fun with, it grows all over here, that and American Beauty Berry.
Thanks guys, so I wonder how the heck it got to my backyard in Western Washington... must be a bird. It's interesting enough that I will probably keep one or two if it comes back next spring.
