Good morning your lovely plant is a cordyline, probably cordyline rubra.Looks good, I grow them out side and there are many colours, from green through to red, pink with green, pink with white and the list is almost endless.I grow them in shade or even full hot sun, their colour alters a bit but they are very hardy. Hope this helps.Each one of those 'sticks' at the base will grow if just put into another pot and kept moist.
Hey Carm, Your plant is a beauty! Those are sold as annuals here, but can be an indoor plant during the cold months (if they are healthy and treated good) I don't see em get that big. What a nice gift from your Dad! Enjoy!
Like Toni said... it does look like my Red Sister Cordyline. I've only had it since this past summer and haven't seen any type of blooms. But the leaves sure look the same.
