Hi. Further tidying up on PC found these older pics from a few years ago. Pheasant Mr & Mrs with their family and pair of Swans.
Lovely photos! I'm trying to get more birds coming to my garden. Didn't get a great angle on this one but baby was a big as mom
Lovely photo of a curious look bird. What are these? And are they sifting through the mud for food with their beaks like that?
These are spoon bill rosettes. They swing their "Spoon from side to side sifting out small marsh shrimp and such from the water. The shells of the tiny crustations they sift is what makes them pink. Just like flamingos if you deprive them of the lil shrimp they slowly fade to white.
@cajuncappy - never ever knew they derived the 'pink' from the shrimp they ate. I kinda thought they might be somehow sifting food from the waters but didn't realize where the colour came from. Also never knew that a flamingo would fade out to white.
Hi. Lovely birds and good pics. Fascinating how birds all have their beaks "designed" to suit there particular feeding habits. Two more older pics follow. Gulls/Crows following plough - Goldfinches .
