I ordered 10 of these birdhouse gourds a few years ago. Most were drilled hoping to become real birdhouses and given to my Mom and Lisa for Christmas. I used regular craft acrylic paints on them, then sealed then. I don't think any of the birdhouses have actually been used as such but they are pretty hanging in the trees. I forgot I still had these. I need to get them out back this spring. These two were drilled for birdhouses This one is not drilled, just a pretty
I like them toni I bet they will really show up in the trees.I do love the sunflower it would make a beautiful birdhouse also.I wonder if you could still drill the hole and it would not harm the gourd are paint.I do hope you take pictures after you hang them.I have some of those gourds in a box in my closet.I must dig them out.I need some trees that will be the problem.
Glenda, all the needed holes have been drilled. Randy did that before I painted them. The center of the flower is the entry hole for a bird and up near the top of the neck are much smaller holes to thread either a wire clothes hanger or braided fishing line thru for hanging. I think I will use the wire tho, it might keep the birdhouse from swing around too much for the bird to be comfy.
They are really lovely Toni and I hope, that once they're wired up, the birds move in and set up home. :-D
I especially like the butterfly one myself but I think the first one would make a great Valentine's gift for someone.
How pretty. Any bird would be proud to have one of these. We did two for the Carolina wrens here. I put them up in the corners of two fairly open sheds. The wrens will even roost in them in the winter.
Thanks all. I really had a good time making them. I didn't get pictures of all of them before giving them away guess I need to do that. After seeing Bethies gorgeous gourds, I am itching to try the woodburning on some large ones. If the seeds I bought the other day produce any bushel gourds it will be well into next year before I have any to work on, so I am going to have to order a couple before then.
