I have some wood frame windows and will be getting some bales of straw this weekend. My question is when is it safe to start seeds in the cold frames? I'm zone 5 and this week has been OMG cold and windy. Any advice?

I would wait until snow isn't likely. Then, place it near a building with a southern exposure to insure adequate sunlight. I'm sure our experienced gardeners have good advice.
I always wanted a cold frame made with old windows, but fear of someone trespassing and falling through the glass stopped me.

Depends on where you are located.
