........................... Howdy, Folks; I saw my first Monarch butterfly visitor of 2015 this morning in my yard.. It was 'dancing in the air' from plant to plant, never settling long enough for me to get the camera into action.. Made me happy to watch it going about its business.. Love to all, Hank.....
Monarchs already? I didn't think they were really out until it got warmer. How warm has it been where you are?
I haven't seen any Monarchs here yet. I did buy some milk weed seeds so I could plant some host plants for them.
We don't get monarchs here but I did catch a fleeting glimpse of a butterfly the other day. Sadly it was too fast for me to ID.
Riccur, I'm in Central Florida right now, Zone 9a; the daily high temps reach mid-80s Fahrenheit; have been in the 80s for a month approximately.. Hank
Hank, congratulations! We haven't had Monarchs yet, but I did see a Sulphur earlier this week, and we have several skippers around. Eighty degree temperatures for a month? You lucky dog!
Hank, do you know why (i think) the butterflies "dance" from plant to plant? And, i know what you are describing. They are not just visiting different plants, but i think they are celebrating having found a food source for their larvae. I don't think they are this joyful over just nectar plants. Food is not that important to them. It always makes me feel happy to see this celebratory dance too. It is a kind of infectious joyfulness. I have noticed other butterflies do this as well. They come into the garden and they stop to inspect each plant and when they find one they can lay eggs on they celebrate and start to look for more
