Thanks you all. We stayed at home this year, so many things got in the way of our anniversary trip that it had to be cancelled, we pretended we were in a hotel room and did nothing but binge on Murdoch Mysteries, talk and Randy did the cooking. We are going out to dinner with our kids Tuesday evening, to the restaurant that Randy took me to on our first date 38 years ago.
Well, actually if I were judging the future of our relationship by the place he took me on that first date I would have had very strong second thoughts about it. The original location was in an very old building, with much of the many years and different colors of paint peeling off the outside....in a rather 'seedy' part of town. The tables inside were so used that there was no design left on the top from being washing down so many times and some of the table tops had depressions in them from the wear and tear of cleaning over the years. The silverware had BA embossed on the handles....Braniff Airlines had upgraded their silverware and sold off the old. I don't think any of the plates, cups, glasses matched but everything was spotlessly clean and the food was 'to die for' It's hard to find a really good Tex-Mex restaurant nowadays but this one did and still does use old family recipes and the three locations they now have are all managed by family. The one we usually go to is managed by one of the founders daughters who was a young waitress we met at the first location all those years ago. Back in the day it was very common to see Mom and Dad sitting at a corner table rolling silverware in napkins. Times have changed, the silverware (while it still doesn't match) is all newer and the plates and glassware all match but the food and service is still excellent. And they make the most amazing Sangria I have ever tasted.
