I just bought a campanula get mee at the supermarket a few weeks ago. It was so charming, I had to have it, and the care tag looked pretty simple. Since I bought it, it seems to have gone downhill. I noticed when I first bought it, that the soil was wet. I figured that they had watered it quite a bit not to long before I bought it. But it took almost two weeks for it to dry out. I felt the soil. It was still a bit damp, but not as wet as it was before, so I watered it a little. Again, it seems soaked. I took it out of the decorative pot it came in a few days ago to see if that helps it dry out a bit, and just a few minutes ago, I took it out of its pot altogether. It is so wet! The soil and roots are all holding together in the shape of the pot, so it should be ok to put back, but I want it to dry out a bit, since I think the excess water might be the reason that it is diminishing.
I bet you're right! Poor little thing is water-logged. I would leave it out of the pot so it can dry. I think more plants die from too much water rather than not enough water I know my co-worker over waters all of hers and the result is fungus gnats :-x She just loves them to death.
Should I change the soil to something that drains better? The tag said that they like to stay moist, but I think that this is a bit over-doing it. I don't know what type of soil they potted the poor thing in, but it doesn't want to let go of water at all! What do you think?
Gosh, I don't know. Maybe knock some of the wet soil off and plant it in a new pot with dry soil??? Doesn't it make you mad the way they treat plants??? I don't know why some of those places even bother to sell plants. It's obvious they don't know how to care for them. Our WalMart is horrible!! Either they are soaked, like yours or dry to the bone. While I'm on my soapbox here...I think if they didn't ask so darn much for some of them they would be able to sell more and wouldn't have so many pathetic looking, half dead plants on their 50% off rack. grrrr
Walmart is like that here too. Terrible looking things. It has been sunny and dry here, so I just put it in the window to dry out. It is bouncing back. Maybe I have to change the kind of soil it is in. It holds water too long.
Probably not a bad idea. I started using Miracle Grow soil and really believe in it! It's a little bit more money but all my plants seem to love it. :-D
I googled it and found mostly outdoor instructions. I guess if it grows outdoors it must like some "elbow room" :-D It is a pretty flower
yup. i don't think campanulas like it tight. in the pot. probably loose soil, like they'd find up in the mountains. and sun?
