I have an odd heurc and I'm not sure what the problem is. The leaves are a pretty marbled color and 'what is left' of the tag has 'marvel' but any other information has broken off. It's problem is when it blooms the stalks, with leaves, get up to 2 feet taller that the plant below. It looks totally different that all the rest of my heurc's. Any suggestion on what is wrong with it or do some of them act this way? Not very pretty in bloom and stays rather loose leafed al the time. Note the long flower wands that are sticking out past the tree trunk.
Some of mine behaved like that. If you prefer them without flowers, use those long stalks in a mixed flower arrangement. Then you can enjoy the foliage. Very nice plant!
Could it possibly be Heuchera americana Marvelous Marble I wonder? I know it has the red veined leaves like the one in your photograph.
I agree with Eileen, it looks like Heuchera americana 'Marvelous Marble'. The plant itself will reach about 12" when mature but the flower scape can add another 24" to the overall height of the plant so it appears it has been doing what it is meant to do.
Thanks for helping. None of the other heurc's that I have bloom like this one so I thought it was a little weird. I like it but wasn't sure if it was mutating or regressing or what. It's a keeper.
2ofus,..it is a keeper,..imagine having a different colored one next to it,..darker say like Heuchera 'Palace Purple',..or a lighter colored one like Heucherella 'Sweet Tea',..that would be impressive,..i am hoping to get one similar to yours,..mine are in containers as i want to divide them later in the season. Huecherella 'Sweet Tea'.
Since my shade garden is almost complete I'm thinking of getting one or two- how much sun can they handle?
Hi Deanna,..get two lol,..they will tolerate full to part sun,..i have them in both those areas and they are thriving.
I have read that there are heurc's for sun now. The older ones like mostly shade. I bought one that said 'for sun' but found that it didn't like FULL sun so I moved it where it gets morning sun and it's happy.
Hiya, I suppose that it could be the nature of that particular species. I have some as well, and their flower stems are al;so quite long this year. A tip: If you want a second blooming, then when these flowers are bloomed out immediately cut all of the bloom wands off as low as you can...and wait you could get that second blooming. I do this each year and always get a second blooming. I think that your Heu. looks nice.
