Nashville Tennessee. Zone 6B - 7A There are several of these, springing up in the shade around the base of a tree in my front garden. I'm pretty sure they're hostas, but wanted to get that confirmed: And then this green stalk-y thing. I thought it might be a daffodil, but if so, it's much later blooming than the lady's next door.
I'd completely forgotten about daylilies. Of course, that's just what they look like! OK, so can I move them? They are currently right in the middle of the garden that I'm planning right now. I just had the hedges removed from there so that I can replace them, and those daylilies are growing in a very inconvenient spot. One time I transplanted daylilies ... a friend gave me several clumps, and they did fine. But I've never dug any up to put them somewhere else. Can I? Will they be OK?
They should be fine. This is a great time to move things. If you get a lot of soil with them they may not even know they have been moved. I just put a couple of perennials in large pots with good potting soil, because I am not sure where I want them yet. When I am ready they will have put on some nice growth. This way they will settle into their new spot without missing a growing season.
