Thanksgiving is coming, and I'm preparing cranberry chutney, baking rolls, cutting up stale bread for dressing, and just having a very happy time in the kitchen getting ready for Thursday Turkey Day. Tomorrow my big oven will be occupied by a large turkey, and the other with a smaller one that I'm roasting for a food pantry/church Thanksgiving dinner.
I love to cook and bake, and Thanksgiving and Christmas give me a chance to cut loose, cook too much, bake for friends and service people (the little town's police department are cookie junkies and always get a big tray of assorted cookies) and the clerks and managers at our stores.
    I am so very happy!

I like to bake cookies but I make myself wait until after Thanksgiving to start. I'll be making my list and checking it twice so I have the ingredients that I need to get me started. It has gotten cold enough to use the oven and it will help make the rooms a bit warmer. They are not cold, but I like a bit warmer. dooley

Eileen, such a nice comment--thank you!
Dooley, there are few pleasures better than being in a warm kitchen with the aromas of baking cookies, breads, and stews and soups. I admire your restraint in waiting until after Thanksgiving to start Christmas baking. I do not have your strength of character ;).

I always liked Thanksgiving. It is a family time and I dislike Christmas taking away from it. My mom and dad never let us start anything Christmas too early. Our Christmas tree always went up the Sunday before Christmas and came down on January 3rd. dooley

Many years ago I started holiday baking around the first week of Dec and it didn't end until a couple of days before Christmas. usually went through 50+ pounds of flour and the assorted ingredients. Cinnamon bread mainly, but about 6 different varieties of cookies, prissy pecans, two kinds of fudge and a few pies and cakes. Much of the goodies went with Randy to work or to neighbors and friends.

I have just finished handing down all my baking equipment to my oldest daughter who has inherited that crazed drive. (I caught it from my Mom) So my oven will be cold next month and my bottom will be a lot smaller for the change.

I missed not making Thanksgiving dinner and having the house filled with great smells. Next year I plan on doing it....
