I have never been able to grow daylilies for some reason. But, two years ago a fellow gardener gave me some bulbs (rhizomes, the things day lilies grow out of) and I planted them near a rose bush.
They are in bloom! I'm so happy.

It isn't fabulous like Jerry's, nor rare, but my gracious, it bloomed, and we have more buds!
Now I'll be canvassing the surrounding square miles for folks who will trade a day lily thingamajig for a loaf of homemade bread!
Sometimes gardening is so much fun I can hardly stand it!!!

A lovely one there--I have that one too. You are right--no frills...but a small stand of these is very lovely.
It sounds like you have a good plan. Bread for plants. It is inspired.

Now you have some growing I hope they multiply year on year for you. I do love it when something that hasn't been a success before suddenly takes off!!

Hi. Another of my very favourite plants. Have been growing them many years - they have never failed, always performed well and been no problems at all.

Syd, you have a lily green thumb that I obviously lack. I do enjoy day lilies, and hope to have more.
If you have photos to share, that would be nice (hint, hint!).

Hi Jane. Good to talk to you again. I am sure your gardening skills and abilities are every bit equal to mine - probably better.
Gardening is for sure a very complex thing with so many many different factors involved and influencing all aspects - both the seen and the unseen - the known and the unknown.
I think that all of us have had those plants which try as we might just do not/did not seem to like us and refused to grow for us as previously your Daylilies. I have had quite a number with examples being Monardas and Thalictrums - not especially difficult but to my great disappointment no go for me no matter what.
I have always grown a goodly range of plants of all types but with the accent on as many different species as poss so with a few exceptions not too many varieties of any one of them - Daylilies included - just a few examples of these.
My favourite is Kwanso with the double flowers - I have also the standard single - a "pink" one and a single yellow - will look up the names. Will try and find some pics but have just recently had a grand clear out on the PC.
Happy for you and your Daylilies - no doubt you will now give some more a go.
    Best wishes. Syd.

    You go Jane!!! :D

Y'know it's funny, Daylilies are something I've never had trouble with. I'm not the greatest gardener in the world, and I am most certainly far from knowledgeable about gardening in general (that's why I rely on you all so heavily) but I know that I can always shove a daylily in the ground, hardly pay it any attention, and it will just grow and spread like wildfire. Funny that.

Anyway, yours is gorgeous. And looks the same as the one I have coming up right now in the front garden.

What a pretty orange! I wished I had some to share. I can almost smell homemade bread!
