I love several clematis and Jackmanii was one of the first that I grew. I really like it. I planted it on the same trellis as Duchess of Albany. I have 2 on each side of my arbor plus one more on a trellis. This year I want to add a couple of 4 to 5 foot ones for the large stumps in my yard.

I've never tried one before but plan on purchasing 1 or 2 this summer. How do they do in big pots??

I grew my sale jackanii in pots the first year and half because I wasn't sure where to put them. They not only thrived but had lots of blooms. Because watering pots is a drag the plants are now both in the ground. Looks like they will cover the shed this summer by the amount of vines that are stretching out currently. image.jpg

Hi. Looks svery happy and healthy - wonderful deep colour too. Clematis can be a tad iffy at times I have found over the years - thrive mightily for ages and then suddenly give up - believe its called Clematis wilt. Do not know if it is still done but at one time it was suggested by the pundits to plant new plants a few inches deeper so they might shoot again if this happened. Syd.

I have a jackmani in the front yard that I believe might have the wilt. It is also stressed because I do not water out there. It still keeps coming up from the roots each year. I read somewhere that you are supposed to cut it to the ground so I have tried that to try to cure it. It is up and growing again this spring.

When I lived in Idaho the clematis always froze to the ground, but stretched up tens of feet and bloomed beautifully. Cool roots and adequate water seem to be the key.
