    Hi -

    I'm a newbie here How's everyone doing?

Bugs & Me Are NO GOOD!!!!

I don't know too much about gardening - I have a few two small flower beds in the front of my home.

And on the stoop I have 2 big pots with a Autumn Joy in each -
this is the third year with them. Which is amazing in it's self....

BUT PLEASE SOMEONE - HELP ME!!

there are a ton of this jet black with an bright orange dot - either at the head or tail_ I'm not getting that close to look. And they have a lot of legs.

I don't know what to do. They are pretty yet ugly - I'm afraid they'll come in the house since they are on the steps coming into the house , Yet they aren't too close to the other flowers But they will work their way over to the other flowers.

How do I get rid of them - I'm afraid they will go everywhere.

    :'( :'( :'(

Oh Please someone answer - And fast.

    Thank You
    shiney

Hello there and welcome. I'm sorry, I'm no expert at bugs. A photo would be helpful. Is it a beetle or a spider?

Edit, try looking at this page.

If you don't see your bug at the site Droopy posted, then please have someone take a picture and post it here. There are just way too many bugs like you described to be able to ID it without a picture.

There are many, many ugly bugs that are the good guys and without them the bad guys can take over. You can use a broom to sweep them off the porch into the yard but hold off on trying to get rid of them until they are Identified.

I think I found your bug on Toni's bug site, take a look at this: Young ladybug. That's what they claim it is. Scroll down, it's about on the middle of the page.

I looked right at that bug while looking for your beetle but it didn't resemble the picture Shiney posted. But it certainly does look like the picture she posted later.

Hi - Toni - thanks or you help - Tho I still don't know what to do it's either the Oleander Caterpillar Or Pipevine Butterfly Caterpillar, But I think it is a little hair - I will check in the morning - But

Do You know if Pipevine Butterfly Caterpillar multiples or has a lot of babies? cause just looking over it fast I count 12 - plus walking on the leaves.

I have to say this totally BUGS me out - He he he  I so don't like bugs

The caterpillar doesn't have babies. The butterfly lays eggs on a host plant, the larvae hatch from the eggs. Caterpillar is the next stage and then they will pupate to become the butterfly and the process starts all over again.

The Pipevine Swallowtail does lay eggs in clusters, sometimes as many as 20 in one cluster, so there will be several caterpillars and if there are more than one butterfly in the area then the caterpillars will increase too.

The caterpillars prefer Pipevine or Snakeroot but with humans moving into their territory they will probably adapt to other foods.
