Feb. 1 was the day we harvested our lemon tree this year. Here is the picture filled report complete with videos of the whole process. We had a ball laughing and picking. http://cappyandpegody.blogspot.com/2016/02/lemony-pickins-series-of-unfortunate.html
wow, great story and a great reward for your efforts. thanks for sharing. we don't do lemons here so it is interesting to see something we don't/can't grow.
Glad ya enjoyed it. We grow citrus here and love it. No apples however cause our winters are too mild. We try to make the best of What the good Lord gives us.
We can't grow lemons here unless in a greenhouse and mine just isn't big enough. Looks like you had a great crop and it was worth all the aches and pains.
It really was eileen, and the difference between a vine ripe and store bought lemon is amazing. kind of like the difference in tomatoes. vine ripe is soooo much better.
I wish the video's came with smell and taste too! I enjoyed watching them. Is That a 'normal' crop of lemons each year or was it a bumper crop?
Actually it was an average year we get from 8 to 12 gallons. Last year due to a very late frost we didn't get any. The frost caught the tree in bloom and burned the flowers. That's a fine example of semi-tropical. The semi part sucks. That's why we wait to make jelly until summer. After the fruit has set. If something happens and there is no fruit we use the juice for 2 years and do not make jellies with it. Stretching it to the ext year. We have kept juice for 2 years frozen and it is still fresh and wonderful when thawed. It is important to remember though thaw fully before using.
