Missouri or at least mid-west wildflower

    My daughter sent me these photos from a friend who needs and ID Growing in Missouri is the only info I have.

    Just found out that it apparently has a square stem since he told my daughter that it wasn't round. And when he broke off a leaf it had a white milky sap.

    Did anyone take a pic of the opened bloom? Looks like that bud was about to POP. Interesting mystery!

    I got a text from her last night, he found an ID but she didn't say what, next text going out this morning.
