Thought I would be frugal and buy the mixed seeds package of chile peppers but am now at a loss to identify these five...If anyone could tell me WHAT these peppers are and then what signs to identify for best harvest I would be grateful. One of the pictures I think is a hot cherry but am not sure and don't know when best to harvest. Help!

The first and third picture look like my Chili Red Peppers. Not sure on the others though.

I too was leaning toward the red chile for pict 5 but the others are all very different. Assuming this is the red chile, is it best to let it turn completely red for harvest or would picking a few green be cheating?

Hi Cassandra, #1 looks like it could be an anaheim
#2 looks like it could be cayanne
#4 looks like a cherry bomb
#5 looks like a chili pepper
The cherry bomb is really the only one I really think we are all in agreement on though. Did you save the seed packet? Usually the varieties included are listed on the packet. and you can guess from there to narrow the choices down by quite a bit. Good luck on all the guesses though. Hope you like surprises and hot peppers.

They make great hot pepper jelly in any combination. I used VARIOUS hot peppers last year to make 3 alarm pepper jelly and I found a recipe for raspberry hot pepper jam. OH MY!!! that was marvelous! I have to make that again this year.

Carolyn the seed packet does include all those varieties but what is throwing me off is the little sentence that says "and various other types as available"...Thanks for the input.

That hot pepper jelly sounds interesting! Is there any way you would be willing to share the recipe??
