Made 2 batches of these today :) First batch was made with butter and second was made with shortening. Wanted to see if there was much difference, although there didnt really seem to be, in my opinion. I also used half semi-sweet and half milk chocolate chips. Having two different flavors of chocolate was nice :) Oh, another thing- I used Crisco butter-flavored shortening :) Thats really the only kind of shortening I use when I do use it (I use real butter more often).

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies ( photo / image / picture from TheBip's Garden )

1 cup shortening or unsalted butter
    3/4 cup packed brown sugar
    3/4 cup white sugar
    2 eggs
    1 tsp vanilla extract
    1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1 teaspoon salt
    2 cups rolled oats
    2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).

In a large bowl cream shortening/butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar. Add eggs and vanilla and mix thoroughly.

Combine the baking soda, salt and flour and stir into creamed mixture.

Add oatmeal and chocolate chips and stir until well blended.

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes.

Bip, I just bit my monitor trying to taste those cookies! They look great, and thanks for posting the recipe in time for the holidays. It was also kind of you to experiment so all of us didn't have to. :p

That looks better than Kellog's Softbatch chewy cookies because of the oatmeal-chocolate chip combination. Send me some, please! I love chocolate chip cookies!

Gee Pondlady, you and Toni are supreme "enablers". Toni with plants, and you with variations on delicious recipes. I love butterscotch! In fact, butterscotch and chocolate and peanut butter are the three major food groups in my kitchen. ;)

OMG!Those look yummo(words of Rachael Ray)! I just can't make them because it is just the 2 of us & I just keep pitter pattering, pitter pattering out to the kitchen until they are gone.
I think your recipe is about like mine that I used to use.
