I had a tall red coleus which I was told I could keep indoors. Again, the leaves sorta did fine as long as they were watered well, but eventually it became more tall rather than leafy, and later on, all the red leaves turned green.

I have now put the plant in the balcony, and it looks like the plant is now growing well, with strong leaves, but still green leaves. Small red tinges, but basically green nonetheless.

    What'd I do wrong?

(Oh one more thing, it is due for a re pot, the roots were popping out since i bought it in January... is that relevant?)

There are some Coleus that require sun. Do you know the species or cultivar of yours?
If yours is one that grows in sun, then the leave color change and the tall growth are signs that it was not getting enough sun.
