As you all may remember, Capt Kirk had some worrying news from his Doctor last June. www.gardenstew.com/threads/happy-fathers-day.35902/

Sadly, his health problems were worse than first thought and we have recently learned that he passed last summer. He passed quietly at home with his wife and son near.
He was 71 years young, a Vietnam War veteran and served in the Navy for 20 years.

In his memory, memorial contributions may be made to the local humane society where he lived. Anyone interested can let me know and I will give you the address and donation information.

He was a sweet man, he joined GardenStew in Sept of 2005, so he was a long time fixture here and he will be missed by GardenStew.

Such sad news. Captain Kirk will be sorely missed here as he was part of our GardenStew family for so many years. It was a pleasure to know him and call him my friend.

I was so saddened to hear of Capt's passing. As Toni mentioned he joined in 2005 so we were quite honoured to have corresponded with him for so long. He will be remembered as a very humourous guy with a real love for nature.

Every year almost without fail he would post a photo of his sugar maple tree...

... and his winter firewood all nearly packed in the shed...

I have found myself going back over his posts and I've had a good chuckle. You can also find his blog entries here..

Hard to believe you're gone Capt :setc_063: Thank you for all the good times and laughs. Rest in peace my friend.

I was wondering. I have been searching for any information about him, but was drawing a blank. I couldn't remember where he said he lived and wasn't sure if I was searching for his given name even.
I think it is safe to say we all have and will continue to miss him Rest in Peace Capt.

Gardening now where weeds never grow, flowers always bloom and slugs and snails don't exist. Safe journey Capt. .
