When we moved to Texas, residents told us that roses, among other things, didn't grow in Texas. Please don't tell that to our Crimson Cascade on our entry fences!
WOW those are real show stoppers!! Your roses are absolutely beautiful Jane and look so good against the white of the fence. You must make your neighbours jealous when they see them.
Please tell me that they have a beautiful aroma to go with their beautiful looks. You must be doing something right!
Cuatro-gatos, the Crimson Cascades have a light scent, but we have other roses that are heavily scented--just walking down the path to the barn is scent-sational! Netty, we found that those who said xxx won't grow in Texas hadn't tried, and were just too lazy to garden. I don't talk to those folks. And for the other kind comments, thank you. I'll go read them to the roses, who need all the encouragement they can get since it's so hard for them to grow here in Texas!
Yeah, just about every major city in the state has a huge rose garden so anyone saying they won't grow here, like you said, hadn't tried or too lazy to garden. Farmers Branch, the city nearest us on the edge of Dallas, has been using roses almost exclusively in their landscaping along streets and around municipal buildings.
I planted roses in Texas and found the some grew extremely well and some of them didn't. Knockout roses and 2 antique roses did great and 2 antiques didn't. I wish I could remember the antique roses names but..?
We planted roses when we lived in Texas. They did just fine and bloomed the first year. We also had climbing roses on the fence between us and our neighbors. Their grandchildren would come and ask to pick one for grandma. Since they asked so nicely I always said, "yes." dooley
