I saw this in a private wooded area near my house in Pa. The person who owns the property never planted it and thinks it is a native plant I think it is a beautifully shaped plant. It doesn't flower. Can anyone help ID this?
Reminds me of a Maidenhair Fern, maybe the Adiantum pedatum Northern Maidenhair Fern?? It's native to the U.S. north east and non-flowering
Hi toni, Yes it does look like that but there are leaves coming off the main stems all the way up the branch. I have edited this because as I researched it now I found that maidenhair fern can grow to 3 feet tall. Things that we are used to seeing short may look different when mature. It has no normal little things that look like ferns around it but I will go back and look again.
I got it......It's Comptonia peregrina - sweet fern. I really love it. It is not really a fern. Maybe this landowner will share some with me. Thanks for everyone's help. LOL Thanks toni.....
