These shrubs came with the house. I am not sure what they are and how to take care of them. Are these planted too close to each other? Should I move every alternate one? Also, the second and the third shrub are turning a little yellow. Are these distressed? How do I take care of them? Thanks a lot in advance for your help! Those look like Boxwood. Perhaps the old owner was going to trim them to look like a hedge? They do seem rather close...
They look like they are meant to be a hedge. Do you want a hedge there? Whatever you do, I would not totally cover up that lovely wall....it is very attractive.
I agree with Cayuga... that is a lovely wall. I'm not a fan of hedges... they do have their purpose... privacy and boundaries. But that wall is just to pretty to hide. If it were me, I'd get rid of them completely, or at the very least, thin them out and add some flowers for color. Varying foliage and heights too, but nothing too thick. Let us know what you decided to do. Good luck!
I am going to thin them out. I love the wall too. There were no previous owners - its a brand new house. But this is the builders idea of landscaping.
Ah! That makes sense. Builders aren't necessarily gardeners or landscape designers. You could try transplanting them if you could use them someplace else.
I second transplanting all of them. The wall is very pretty and the boxwood would be useful elsewhere. That spot does have a lot of potential.
I can't get on board with keeping boxwood anywhere (my personal dislike,) but so agree with not leaving them there. Life's way too short to wrestle with shrubs that don't have enough room to grow to full size.
