I bought this plant at a silent auction a couple of years ago. They said it was a Gardenia.
It dies back in the winter. My "real" Gardenia doesn't.
It is only a couple feet tall and finally bloomed this year. Doesn't look like a Gardenia blossom to me. And there is no fragrance. Plus it puts on a cluster of buds.
Can someone ID it for me please?
Oh yeah... I'm in SE Texas zone 8b.
    Thanks in advance!

I think it's in the family but not the regular Gardenia. Maybe it's nearer to Gardenia thunbergia or Jasmine.

Hi, are you ready for this????

tabernaemomtana divaricate is the name of your lovely plant[I hope after spelling that]
In other countries of course it is called other names.
Rose of India is one of them
Crepe jasmine I think is another name.

Thanks Chocolate! Now I can quit cussing it because it's not growing like the Gardenia. :-D
No wonder it dies back in the winter... it's rated for zones 9 and up.
So far only a couple of blooms have opened. Hopefully more will open at the same time so I can see if there's a fragrance. Will also check it first thing in the morning one day since what I've read the scent fades away throughout the day.
Looks like I have it planted in the right spot... it gets sun with partial shade, but I may need to water it a little more often.
