We were wandering around a cemetery on Saturday looking for my grandparents and found this flower growing beside a headstone. I have searched every combination of descriptive words I can come up with to no avail. The flowers are very tiny, maybe an inch across.

Annoying, but I used to grow this and for the life of me I cannot dredge up a name.

I wonder if it's a Sida? I found some similar flowers but if the foliage in your pic goes with the flowers, I didn't find an exact match. Also kind of reminds me of Hibiscus trionum, with orange flowers instead of white. Maybe that will help jog someone's memory.

Found a pic that looks the same but it's unlabeled.

Modiola caroliniana - red flowered mallow. An annual or short lived perennial from warmer parts of the USA.

PIO, Sida and Modiola are both in the Malvaceae family so that would explain their similarity. The photo you linked to is the one I found...Modiola caroliniana.

Thanks Palustris for the name, I knew you would dredge it up from your memory.
When I was searching yesterday the Malvaceae family kept coming up and one result was for a Caroliniana species but different Genus....the proper Genus just kept eluding me.

It's a pretty little plant in person, bright salmon almost orange color blooms. Actually very cheerful in a cemetery.

I wouldn't mind in the least if that mallow moved in here as it's just so pretty.

I wish there had been a grounds keeper there at the time I would have volunteered to do some weeding for them.
