I really don't know what is happening with this new computer. When I first got it I had an E:/drive installed for reading CD/DVD's. This operated fine for a while but has now completely vanished from my computer. I have touched nothing so haven't a clue how this driver has simply vanished. Can anyone help me?
Hubby has been working on ours around the house here and learning as he goes along, so remembering that- his suggestion was that maybe your hardrive quit.
Eileen, what do you mean it disappeared? Do you have a D and E drive so you can burn CD's? If you put a CD in the D drive, does it read anything or just do nothing?
Had that happen once, just had to rebuild the desktop to get it back ( restart the computer while holding down a couple of buttons... durn... can't remember which ones...)
Eils I know you are using Vista so click the Start (Vista icon) button and search for 'Device Manager'. Do you see an entry on the list presented that says DVD/CD-ROM drives? Can you expand this entry in the list?
I've tried everything that you've all suggested. Thanks for all the help btw. Nothing at all is happening so I've had to get in touch with the computers manufacturer to see if they can shed any light on what's going on. I can't even burn back-up CD's to see if I can solve the problem that way. Gawd I hope the 'puter doesn't need to be replaced as I have an Open University course starting on Monday. I gave up my job to have the time to do it so please keep your fingers crossed that it's going to be a simple "press button X,Y and Z" to solve the problem. If I disappear again for a few days I guess you'll all know why. :'(
